CruzID
I've heard that "IDM" is rolling out. What do I need to do/know to prepare?
On August 24, 2007, Information Technology Services (ITS) implemented a new account management system called CruzID. This system has important implications for how the campus manages user accounts. In addition, CruzID is the new name for your current UCSC ID / email account (username@ucsc.edu). This change will not affect your UCSC email address and password.
The new account management system, CruzID, will use information from campus source systems (Payroll Personnel System, Academic HR DivData system, and Academic Information System) to create, update and close accounts based on the individual's status in those source systems. Individuals will receive CruzIDs when they formally become affiliated with the campus and their CruzID will stay active until they separate from the campus.
CruzID will enhance the campus' ability to secure data, communicate with targeted campus members, move toward a single sign-on functionality, and provide greater self-service in resetting or recovering lost passwords.
If you are leaving the University and you have a business need to keep your account open, request a sundry account.
For a complete list of ITS Service Catalog forms see the Account Forms page.
Summary of the employee and faculty account closure policy
Employee accounts - will be closed when the employee separates from the campus. The employee's unit may contact the ITS Support Center to request an extension or re-enabling of the account if there is a business need for the account to remain open during the staff transition.
Faculty accounts - will remain active for 90 days beyond their separation date. Again, the unit may contact the ITS Support Center to request an extension of the account. Emeriti retain their faculty affiliation after retirement (Emeriti are retired Senate members, or retired non-Senate academic employees who have had the Emeritus title conferred upon them by the Chancellor)
Faculty will retain their faculty affiliation for 90 days (a.k.a. one quarter) prior to an appointment and for 90 days after an appointment ends. And "Faculty" are the teaching titles, which are outlined in APM 110.
Student accounts - Student accounts generally remain open for one full quarter after a student graduates. For example a student graduating in Fall 2007 would have their account close on the first day of Spring quarter 2008, skipping Winter quarter. More information on student status is available on this flow chart: http://its.ucsc.edu/idm/status_types.php#student.
