Your CruzID is your UCSC account, sometimes referred to as your username, that gives you access to many IT services at UCSC such as email, wireless networking, WebCT, and ResNet. Example: bslug@ucsc.edu - the "bslug" is your CruzID.
Everyone at UCSC-- faculty, staff, students --are issued CruzIDs when they are hired or enroll. People who have been at UCSC for a while may know their CruzID by other names: "UCSCID," "Cruzmail account," "CATS account," or "username."
Students are assigned a CruzID upon enrollment. They activate their account via the portal at my.ucsc.edu. Faculty accounts are usually created before they arrive on campus as part of hiring process.
