Information about Previous eCommons Outages

February 28, 2017 

5:30 PM: eCommons service is restored. If you continue to experience issues with accessing or using eCommons, please contact the FITC at ecommons.help@ucsc.edu.

3:00 PM: eCommons service appears to be restored, but there may still be issues. We are awaiting confirmation from the vendor that service is fully restored.

12:00 PM: Amazon Web Services (AWS) has identified the root cause of the service interruption, and is working on fixing it. Our eCommons vendor is coordinating closely with AWS on resolving the issue. We will provide further updates as they become available.

10:15 AM: There is an issue at Amazon Web Services that is affecting access to eCommons. Follow this page for future updates.

eCommons service is now available
 through our new vendor, Longsight. Please contact ecommons.help@ucsc.edu with any issues.

eCommons is down for a planned outage.
 eCommons is being moved to a new vendor. Service is expected to be restored by 12 noon.

eCommons continues to be unavailable. We have been notified that service is being gradually restored to our vendor's customers, but have not been notified exactly when the service will be restored. We are continuing to monitor and work with the vendor on resolution. We will provide additional updates as they become available.

eCommons continues to be unavailable. The vendor has not provided an update on expected restoration of services. We continue to closely monitor the situation and will provide additional updates as quickly as they are available.

The root cause of the outage has been identified as a hardware failure at the vendor's datacenter. Vendor staff are onsite. We do not currently have an estimate for when eCommons will return to service.

All services have been restored on eCommons. We are continuing to test to ensure the system is fully functional.

eCommons is available and users are accessing the system. Please notifyecommons.help@ucsc.edu if you are experiencing difficulties with access. Email services within eCommons are not currently functioning. This applies to messages, announcements, email archive, assignment submission confirmations, assignments posted messages, tests and quiz submission confirmation emails, and more. Also, new course creation is currently not working and other tools may be slow to respond.

eCommons should be broadly available to campus users. We have made a network configuration change and it may take some time for that change to propagate to our off-campus users.

eCommons is continuing to have performance issues. Access is sporadic and the systems are quite slow. Our vendor is continuing to investigate.

eCommons and Online Course Evaluations are both experiencing an unplanned outage. Current estimate is that services will be restored within 4 hours.

eCommons and Online Course Evaluations are now fully available.

eCommons and Online Course Evaluations are now offline for emergency maintenance. The systems are expected to be available by 8AM on Monday, May 23.

May 20 - Faculty
If you need a way to accept assignment submissions from students during the outage we have a workaround using Google Classroom. The instructions for Google Classroom and Google Assignments are in this tutorial.

May 20 - Faculty
If you have materials in eCommons that you need over the weekend you must retrieve those materials before 9pm tonight. Once the system goes offline we won't have a way to retrieve any materials until the system comes back online on Monday. This tutorial explains how to save materials from eCommons.
