October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month

October 01, 2011

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The goal this month is to raise awareness about the many technology-related threats we face each day, and to learn how we can better protect our computers, our information, and ourselves. Cyber security is up to you!

Please look at USCS's online News and Events during the month of October for a series of cyber security articles. These brief articles highlight important cyber security topics and provide some concrete steps you can take. This year's topics include:

* Six simple things you can do during National Cyber Security Awareness Month to be more cyber-secure

* Cyber security reminders as UCSC moves faculty and staff email to Google later this quarter

* Using strong passwords to prevent others from guessing or hacking them

There will also be posters around campus this month to identify specific actions you can take to increase and promote cyber security in your area.

Thank you for your efforts to increase awareness of cyber security issues. Additional resources are available at ITS’ Security web site: http://its.ucsc.edu/security/. If you have any questions, please contact the ITS Support Center.
