October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month. The goal of this national campaign is to raise awareness about the many technology-related threats we face each day, and to empower people to keep their online lives -- both personal and professional -- safe and secure. Each and every one of us needs to do our part to protect our computers, our information, and ourselves.
New this year is an online Information Security Awareness training developed for all UC locations by a UC systemwide security workgroup. UCSC will make this training available later in October. ITS encourages you to take it. The training takes about 30-60 minutes to complete and will be available to all campus employees on an ongoing basis through Training and Development's UC Learning Center. Additional details will be posted later this month.
Also for Cyber Security Month, there will be a series of articles in USCS's online News and Events, posters around campus, and a barn sign at the base of campus. Please look for them. The articles and posters highlight important cyber security topics and provide some concrete steps you can take. This year's topics include:
* Protecting mobile devices. Also, what to do if your mobile device is lost or stolen
* Cyber security and privacy with Google
* Wireless security
* Password security and phishing
Thank you for your efforts to increase awareness of cyber security issues. Additional resources are available on ITS’ Security web site: http://its.ucsc.edu/security/.
