account or password request can begin with a request of the ITS Support Center.
CruzID
Your CruzID is your UCSC account, sometimes referred to as your username, that gives you access to many IT services at UCSC such as email, wireless networking, Learning Management System (WebCT), and ResNet. For example, in an email address such as bslug@ucsc.edu, the "bslug" is the CruzID. View List of ITS Account Forms Everyone at UCSC-- faculty, staff, and students --are issued CruzIDs when they are hired or enroll. People who have been at UCSC for a while may know their CruzID by other names: "UCSCID," "Cruzmail account," "CATS account," "username." Getting Your CruzID Staff and Faculty employees are given a CruzID form during their on-boarding process to complete, sign, and email or fax the form to the ITS Support Center for processing. If you are affiliated with UCSC, but not an undergraduate, graduate, staff, or faculty, you may request a sundry account that gives you a CruzID. Sundry accounts are reviewed annually. Affiliates who qualify for a Sundry CruzID are: concurrently enrolled students, extension students, Summer Session students, and individuals/agencies officially affiliated with UCSC such as contractors. In some cases, sponsors are required for Sundry applicants; each sponsor must be a career UCSC employee who can attest to the identity of the applicant. Eligibility is subject to compliance with university policy. CruzID Passwords CruzIDs may use different passwords, depending on the service or application that you login to. How do you know which one to use? The password is indicated with an icon on the login screen. ![]() You can change the CruzID Blue and CruzID Gold passwords using the CruzID Manager. Other passwords are changed using different tools, which depend on the specific application they are used to access. CruzID Account Closure CruzIDs for all employees will be closed when the employee separates from the campus. The employee's unit may contact the ITS Support Center to request an extension or re-enabling of the account if there is a business need for the account to remain open. Supervisors may not access employees’ email accounts after employees leave. Faculty accounts will remain active for 90 days beyond their separation date. The unit may contact the ITS Support Center to request an extension of the account. Faculty will retain their faculty affiliation for 90 days (a.k.a. one quarter) prior to an appointment and for 90 days after an appointment ends. Student accounts remain open for one quarter after the last quarter in which the student was enrolled in classes. For example, the CruzID for a student who was last enrolled in the spring quarter will remain active through the end of the following fall quarter. Retired faculty and staff may request that their CruzID remain open during retirement. Contact the ITS Support Center. Desktop Computer Accounts and access to drives Some desktop computers require you to login before using it. Contact the Support Center if you forget your password, require accounts to be added or deleted from the desktop computer, or have any other question about logging in to your computer. ITS Newsletter CruzID Manager The CruzID can be used with different passwords, depending on the service or application that you login to. Each login screen indicates with an icon which password is needed. You can change your passwords using the CruzID Manager. The Account Management service provides support for CruzIDs to the campus from on-boarding, through changes such as people changing their status from student to staff, to separation and graduation. Getting Help For help with any IT account question, regardless of its type, contact the ITS Support Center. If you don't know your CruzID, you can look it up in the directory. In coming students won’t be able to look up their CruzID until after they arrive on campus. If you don't know your CruzID password, please call the ITS Support Center at (831) 459-4357. If you are a student, you can submit an IT Request Ticket to request your password. Faculty and staff must call and verify their identity over the phone. Forms The ITS Account Forms has links to forms you can use to request and manage various types of accounts. There are also links to various accounts that are not managed directly by ITS. However, if you don’t know what to do, just contact the ITS Support Center. Email Only Accounts Sometimes an email address is needed to serve as a point-of-contact for an office or organization. An email address associated with a CruzID doesn’t meet this need. As the name suggests, you cannot use email-only accounts to login to CruzNet, WebCT, or any other system. Email-only accounts are special CruzMail accounts with an @ucsc.edu address. Mail is accessible via web or standard email client and you can store up to 100 MB of files. Request an email-only account by opening an IT Request ticket. Email-Only accounts are renewed annually and a single owner is responsible for its use. Use of Email-Only accounts must follow the campus Acceptable Use Policy and UC’s Electronic Communications Policy. Email-only accounts were formerly known as “Functional Accounts.” University Enterprise System Accounts ITS provides account management for university enterprise systems such as FIS, AIS, PPS, CruzBuy, Data Warehouse, and Business Objects. Request these accounts using the forms downloaded from the Account Forms page. Other Accounts The Account Management service provides authorization and support from on-boarding to closure for any participating ITS system or tool. Whether or not the actual account administration is completed by the ITS Support Center, any computer account or password request can begin with a request of the ITS Support Center. Either the request will be resolved or it will be intelligently referred to the correct unit.
