Cruzmail Spam Filter

Creating a Cruzmail Spam Filter

When you create a spam filter directly in your CruzMail account, you will be able to prevent spam from arriving into your email client software such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, etc.

If you encounter problems after following these instructions, contact the ITS Support Center.

Getting Started:

  1. Login to CruzMail at: cruzmail.ucsc.edu
  2. Click the Mail Control button to create a new rule:

  3. Call the new rule the "sssss Spam Rule" and then click Create.

  4. Click the Edit button to edit your new rule:

  5. Choose Header Field from the Data dropdown menu, and enter *sssss* into the Parameter field (in lower case). Then choose Store in from the Action dropdown, and enter Spam/Learn (note upper case S and L) as shown below:

  6. Add one more Action Discard, with nothing in the Parameter field, and click Update.

  7. Your finished rule should look the same as above.

Note:

This new rule should prevent the majority of spam from reaching both your client email software and your CruzMail Inbox. However, you should still login to the CruzMail Web client from time to time and check the Spam/Learn folder to check and make sure no legitimate email is landing there. Also, any spam in Spam/Learn will need to be deleted manually to remove them permanently.
