Newsgroups
On March 1, 2009, UC Berkeley terminated our USENET News feed peering.
This means no further feed of global USENET news groups to the UCSC campus. Although we will continue to host
local UCSC newsgroups for the indefinite future, there are no plans to seek another feed for external groups
on this legacy service.
Newsgroups are text-based internet discussion groups organized by topic. The USENET system of newsgroups is one of the oldest set of forums on the internet. Newsgroup topics can be global - viewed by internet users around the world, or have a local focus. Local UCSC-related newsgroups may be used for classes at the request of the instructor, for administrative projects, and for registered UCSC organizations. A newsgroup works well if you expect discussions, and feedback from others. You can access them with any of the standard USENET news readers such as Netscape available on all 3 platforms supported, or with a dedicated news reader.
