Desktop Hardware and Software Standards

Compliance with these standards ensures your computers and software will be supported by the ITS Support Center. Support for non-standard equipment and software will be referred to your Divisional Liaison. UCSC's Minimum Network Connectivity Requirements require devices connected to the campus network to run versions of operating system and application software for which security updates are made available.

Supported Versions:

Standard Software - Support Levels
We will not install software that does not comply with the campus minimum network connectivity requirements.
Level 1 Support
Support Center provides best effort assistance.
Level 1 support is essentially for "non-standard" software.
Level 2 Support
Software installation assistance is provided.
Installation media and proof of license must be provided to Support Center. If post-installation configuration is required, clear instructions must be provided in advance.
Level 3 Support
Troubleshooting support for application launch and basic functions (open, save, print, etc.)
Self-help or configuration instructions may be available.
Level 4 Support
Support for a defined set of application functions is available.
These applications receive testing to ensure compatibility with the campus computing environment.
New Version Support
New versions of standard software receive level one (best effort) support until they are tested and supported at a higher level.
For a list of software versions being tested for future support, please visit ITS Software Release.
Support Retirement
When vendor support for software is no longer available, ITS will begin a phased downgrading of support for that software.
