Telephone Services
ITS provides telephone services to the UCSC faculty, staff and students. Services are provided to UCSC locations that are on campus and some off campus locations. Telephone services include wired landlines and micro-cellular antennas that provide cellular phone coverage on campus for major cell phone carriers.

For Emergency Services Dial 911
Important Note: Dialing 9-1-1 from a cellular phone may or may not directly connect you to the UCSC campus emergency services. To ensure the fastest response time as soon as your call is answered, announce that you are on the UC Santa Cruz campus, along with your location on campus, , so that if needed your call can be transferred as quickly as possible. If you have any difficulty with reaching the campus 9-1-1, an alternate number, (831) 459-2345, will directly connect you to campus emergency services.

Features and Functions Teleconferencing
ITS Telecommunications Services offers three options for UCSC campus parties wishing to initiate a Teleconference.

  • UCSC Conference Calling- The UCSC telephone system allows teleconferencing with up to 8 parties. Since only two of the parties can be located off-campus, this type of teleconference call is best suited for smaller, more informal conference calls, especially those where all parties are located on campus.

  • Ready Talk Teleconference Calling plus Web Conferencing - ReadyTalk offers a wide variety of conferencing services. There can be up to 96 participants per call. Teleconference calls may be recorded and stored for a small additional charge and are available for access on the WEB until host requests to delete.

  • AT&T Teleconference Calling - AT&T TeleConference Services gives you the ability to "call a meeting" quickly and easily. You must get password from UCSC ITS Telco department before calling a toll free number or accessing the WEB to setup (reserve) a teleconference call. You can connect as many people as you need whenever you need them and wherever they are.

Telephone Service for Students Residences
Each campus residential bedroom is equipped with one or two telephone lines. Single and double rooms have one telephone line, while triple and quadruple rooms have two telephone lines. A voicemail box is also assigned to each telephone line. The campus telephone system also includes several features that are included with your basic telephone service.

Telephone Service for Faculty and Staff

We offer analog and digital telephone service to faculty and staff. Analog telephones are standard telephones with touchtone keypads. Two digital telephone models are currently available to campus clients. The only difference between the two models is the number of programmable buttons each one has. These buttons allow additional lines, features, and functions to be programmed on the instrument.

Cell Phones
ITS Telecommunications Services continues to work with a variety of wireless telephone providers to bring the campus the best connection in wireless technology. Micro cellular antennas are installed at numerous locations on campus, providing continuous campus coverage for major wireless providers.

The range of options and services is a personal choice. These wireless providers offer UCSC faculty, staff, and student discounts on phones and services.
