IMAP Mail Settings for Apple Mail on Mac OSX 10.5

 

This tutorial will show you the recommended IMAP email settings for your Apple Mail on Mac OSX 10.5 mail account.

 

1) Open Apple Mail

2) Select Mail > Preferences

 

3) Form the preferences menu, select the Accounts icon.

4) Click on the Advanced tab.

Make sure that your settings match the following:

    • Enable this account box checked
    • Include when automatically...box checked
    • Select the All messages and their attachments option
    • Server Port: 993
    • Make sure that  Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) has been checked
    • Authentication: Password
    • Use IDLE box checked

 

5) Next, click on the Account Information tab. Now click on the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) drop-down menu and select Edit Server List...

 

 

6) When the new window pops up, click on the Advanced tab.

Make sure that your settings match the following:

    • Use default ports (25, 465, 587)
    • Make sure that the Use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) box is checked
    • Authentications type: Password
    • User Name: (your CruzID; the part of your @ucsc.edu e-mail address before the '@') and password
    • Click OK

Next step is to close the settings window by clicking on the red circle in the upper left hand corner.

 

If you made any changes, then the following screen will appear:

Click Save

 

 

You’re finished setting up your Apple Mail client to properly retrieve your CruzMail email via IMAP.
