IMAP Mail Settings for Microsoft Outlook 2003

This tutorial will show you the recommended IMAP email settings for your Microsoft Outlook mail account. The version used to make this tutorial is Microsoft Outlook 2003.

1) Open Microsoft Outlook 2003 and click on the menu labeled Tools then Email Accounts.

2) You will be presented with a new pop up window that reads "This wizard will allow you to change the e-mail accounts and directories that Outlook uses." Then there will be four options to choose from, "Add a new e-mail account" - "View or change existing e-mail accounts" - "Add a new directory or address book" and "View or change existing directories or address books." Click on the View or change existing e-mail accounts option and then click the Next button.

3) A new pop up window that contains six editing options, "Change" - "Add" - "Remove" - "Set as Default" - "Move Up" and "Move Down." Bellow these five editing options there is a box with all account types created. Click on the desired account ( ) and then click on the Change option above ( ).

4) A new window will pop up with six entry fields the button "More Settings" First go through the entry fields:

• Your Name can be your name, or whatever text you'd like to be seen as your name when you send an email.
• E-mail Address should be your UCSC email address: CruzID@ucsc.edu
• Incoming Mail Server (IMAP) should be "cruzmail.ucsc.edu"
• Outgoing Mail Server (SMPT) should also be "cruzmail.ucsc.edu"
• User Name should be your CruzID.
• Password is the password for your CruzID.
  After making sure all fields are correct click the button "More Settings"

5) Another window will pop up with the tabs "General" - "Outgoing Server" - "Connection" and "Advanced." Click on the Outgoing Server tab.

6) Check the box that reads "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication" then click on the Advanced tab.

7) Make sure to set "Incoming Server (IMAP)" to 993. Check the box that reads "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." Set the "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" to 465 then check the box that reads "This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL)." Once complete press the OK button.
