This tutorial will show you the recommended POP email settings for your Thunderbird on Mac OSX 10.4 mail account.

1) Open Thunderbird.

2) Click Tools > Account Settings.

3) A menu box will appear. Select Server Settings in the left section.

Make sure that your settings match the following:

    • Server type: POP Mail Server (this cannot be changed unless you delete this account and create a new one)
    • Server name: cruzmail.ucsc.edu
    • Port: 995
    • User Name: (your CruzID; the part of your @ucsc.edu e-mail address before the '@')
    • Use secure connection: SSL
    • Use secure authentication: Un-checked

4) At the bottom of the list on the left of this menu box, click Outgoing Server (SMTP). Select the server you use for your Cruzmail account (it should be the one with "Default" next to it).

Click Edit. Another box of options will appear.

5) In this SMTP Server edit box that appears, make sure that your settings match the following:

    • Description: Cruzmail
    • Server Name: cruzmail.ucsc.edu
    • Port: 465
    • User Name: (your CruzID; the part of your @ucsc.edu e-mail address before the '@')
