UCSC Mailing Lists

UCSC Mailing Lists are for faculty, staff and students who wish to repeatedly mail to a list of individuals. Mailing lists are also used by campus organizations or units where more than one person answers email addressed to the organization. A feature often overlooked about a mailing list is that it can provide an official contact point for a campus unit or office, independent of vacation schedules. In this case, the list contains a single entry which is changed as needed to point to the correct person currently handling the contacts in that unit or office.

To request a UCSC Mailing list, please fill in the web form below. You may contact the ITS Support Center with questions concerning mailing lists or to request instructions of how to fill out the web form below. Requests are usually filled within two business days. You will be notified by email when it is created.

When you request a mailing list, you must designate a List Administrator. Mailing lists are administered with a tool called "Mailman" via a website.

Mailing List Names and Description

The name of the mailing list must be one word; it can be up to 32 characters long, although it makes sense to keep it short but not so short as to be ambiguous. Names of lists are restricted to lower case alpha-numeric characters, dashes (-), underscores (_) or dots (.). Special characters (such as @ # % $ !) may not be used.
If you have an existing mailing list (using listmaint) that needs to be migrated to Mailman, please type the mailing list name here: (leave blank if requesting a new mailing list)

*Enter a one line description of the purpose of this list:
*Enter the UCSC Account username (username@ucsc.edu) of the person that will administer this list. You can have more than one administrator: the first name listed will be that of the main administrator.
*Please provide us with information about  how you will be using this list so we can determine whether the default list options will be appropriate for the mailing list you are requesting.
