Overview

Mac OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is the next major version of the Mac operating system from Apple. This web page will contain links and information describing the status of ITS support for Snow Leopard.


News

Snow Leopard was released on August 28th, 2009. It requires an Intel-based Mac. This means Macs with the PowerPC chipset will not be able to run Snow Leopard.

ITS Snow Leopard Support Goals

ITS Goals for Snow Leopard support include:

  • Maintain the stability of your Mac desktop
  • Ensure compatibility with the campus computing environment
  • Provide adequate advance communication of support plans, recommendations, and scheduled changes related to Snow Leopard support
  • Be open and responsive to your feedback and needs regarding Mac support

Snow Leopard Support Status

ITS Software Release has started testing Snow Leopard with ITS supported software and campus business systems. Please check back for updates.

There is also a program called Mac Up-To-Date. This allows a discounted price of $9.95 for Snow Leopard if you bought a Mac after June 8th, 2009.

Release Awareness & Analysis Research Mac OS X 10.6 and understand hardware/software specifications.
Design, Build & Test Install at Test Cube and commence testing.
Write test scripts and test each new feature and function.
Test all ITS supported software.
Determine minimum requirements for ITS Standard Desktop Software
Test against all relevant services in ITS Service Catalog.
Coordinate campus business systems testing.
Rollout Planning Present test results to ITS Support Center.
Identify needed workarounds for standard software.
Determine risks, impact and schedule.
Assist in choosing new features to support.
Discuss at SDS Team meeting and complete task list.
Train techs if needed.
Document findings with webpages, FAQs and other ITS communcations.
Distribute and Install Work with Software Licensing Coordinator and Support Center for software distribution.
Release Review Review this software release process in 3-6 months. Document how it went and improve process for future releases.
