Unix Timeshare
The unix timeshare, unix.ucsc.edu, provides remote, command line access to Linux-based Unix systems.
Unix.ucsc is a multiprocessor, load-balanced Unix system that provides a computing environment for multiple concurrent users. The Unix timeshare is intended for interactive use, not as a compute server for long running computationally intensive tasks.
The Unix timeshare system is accessible via ssh, X-Windows, and sftp. It is designed to provide an environment consistent with ITS computer labs, so that students and instructors have a uniform computing experience. The Unix timeshare provides access to your UCSC home directory for shared file storage and access to a large software library, including multiple software development environments.
Command line homework submission tools are available (submit, etc) and course directory storage space is available for storing and distributing course materials.
