ITS Division

Information Technology Services (ITS) Division employs approximately 240 staff and nearly 100 student workers. ITS is the university's central IT department and provides enterprise-level technologies and services that are broadly consumed, core to central administrative business operations and academic computing. Demand for IT services is managed by the VCIT, Senior Management Team, and Academic Divisional Liaisons who engage with the campus community and institutional leaders as part of the IT Governance process to understand the institution's technology needs and priorities.

The Who We Are Guiding Principles represent the values by which ITS staff uphold. Integrity, client focus, knowledge, team work, and fulfillment are the cornerstones of our culture.

Leadership

The ITS Division is led by interim Vice Chancellor for Information Technology (VCIT) Brad Smith. In his role, Brad ensures the strategic and operational excellence of both academic and administrative information technology to support and advance all aspects of the campus mission. He provides leadership, direction, strategic vision, communication, and support to the ITS Division.

Brad collaborates across the campus with senior leaders, chancellors, deans, faculty, staff, students, and other key campus stakeholders to identify opportunities to leverage technology in ways that support the goals of teaching and learning, research and discovery, and outreach.

Senior Management Team

The Senior Management Team (SMT) is comprised of the following directors from nine ITS units. SMT meets weekly to plan, strategize, and discuss IT and campus related topics, services, and projects. Each director is responsible for the strategic and tactical management of their ITS unit.

Academic Divisional Liaisons

The Divisional Liaisons (DLs) provide local, specialized services to the academic divisions. Working with the deans, principal officers and their designates, the DLs manage their staff against a portfolio of locally prioritized services that augment those provided centrally in support of divisional goals.

Organizational Structure

ITS delivers many of the IT services to UCSC that are commonly used across all (or almost all) academic and administrative units. Each of the services are delivered by cross-functional teams, including ITS staff and non-ITS business partners.
