Filelocker Secure File Transfer Service
Filelocker is a secure web based file transferring service between individuals, both within and outside of the university. It's the safest way to securely transfer university files, including PII or P4 data to another person.
Filelocker is available to all faculty, staff, and students at no charge.
NOTE: Do not use file or cloud services when there is no UC agreement in place (e.g. Dropbox). Use Filelocker! Filelocker is an approved secure service to transfer protected data files to someone else.
Features
- Upload files safely and securely: Upload files to be transferred directly to another user, or via a publicly accessible download link with the option of password protection.
- Request files: Request a file from an external user via a one time upload link, also with the option of a password.
- Transfer files within and outside of the university: Files can be easily transferred directly with other Filelocker users, or publicly with people who don't have Filelocker accounts.
- Send secure messages: Filelocker can also be used to send secure, encrypted messages to other Filelocker users.
Limitations
- Filelocker is NOT approved for HIPAA or PCI (credit card) data. HIPAA
- Filelocker is NOT a place to store files. This is just file transferring. Files automatically go away after 14 days.
- If you have a business need to transfer files using Filelocker larger than the default quota size 750 MB, please submit a SlugHub Ticket with the Keyword/Category 'Filelocker' detailing specific business need and request in quota size.
How to use Filelocker?
There is no account set up. Just log in with your CruzID and Gold password to begin using the service.
Self-Service
If you have a business need to transfer files using Filelocker larger than the default quota size 750 MB, please submit a SlugHub Ticket with the Keyword/Category 'Filelocker' detailing specific business need and request in quota size.
Availability
Filelocker is available 24/7.
Support and escalation is provided through the ITS Support Center. For planned maintenance, the ITS Change Management Process is followed and planned changes are posted on the ITS Maintenance Calendar.
