Significant reductions in Data Center recharge rates
As of July 1, 2024, Information Technology Services (ITS) has implemented substantially reduced recharge rates for select Data Center services, including Enterprise Virtual Server Hosting, Backups, and Managed Services.
Over the last few years, ITS has worked closely with university leadership to revise the recharge rates, aiming to align the pricing model with other IT services and significantly reduce costs. By excluding labor costs from the rate calculation, ITS has managed to achieve a large decrease in prices.
Summary of changes
Effective July 1, 2024, the following cost adjustments have been made:
- Managed Services: Now fully subsidized by ITS.
- Virtual Enterprise Server Hosting: Rates have decreased by 70% for compute and 44% for storage.
- Data Center Backups: Rates have decreased by 45% to 50%, depending on the size of the data set.
By making these services more affordable, ITS aims to encourage greater utilization of central computing facilities among our campus community. Increased usage of Data Center services can lead to more efficient resource management, and the newly reduced costs will enhance accessibility to these resources.
