WCMS Web Service Retiring
The Campus Web Content Management System (WCMS) will officially retire at the end of summer in 2025. This change means that all websites currently using the WCMS platform will need to transition to a new web tool, with most moving to the new UCSC WordPress service.
Update: The WCMS platform will officially retire October 1, 2025. After that point, any websites powered by WCMS will go offline and no longer be available nor editable.
Working back from the end date, August 15 is the deadline to request to launch a new website in WordPress. This is to ensure website continuity through the transition and so that our teams have time to respond effectively to what we anticipate will be a significant increase in requests. Please note that websites and content that are not migrated prior to October 1 will not be retained.
WCMS served as the primary web platform for many years, but it no longer meets the evolving needs of our campus. As a result, we selected WordPress as our preferred web content management platform moving forward. UCSC WordPress, which has been operational since August 2023, has already seen 100 successful website launches, with many more on the way.
The new WordPress service is designed to be more user-friendly, allowing users to easily create, design, manage, and maintain a sustainable and effective web presence.
