Emeriti

I am an Emeriti and I am unsure what I need to do about MFA. If you access any UCSC application that requires the Gold password (ie; ucsc email, calendar, etc..) you will have to MFA for these applications. The first step to getting started with MFA is to know your Gold password.  Unsure if you have a Gold password, start here. Once you have your Gold password, you can enroll a device. Here are the enrollment steps for devices:

When do I have to sign up for MFA? Emeriti are part of the Faculty rollout. This group requires MFA signup by May 21.

I am an Emeriti and I don't know if I have a gold password. Don't remember your Gold password? Go to CruzID Manager  and select the Forgot Your Password link. Follow the steps on this page for complete instructions. If you still require further assistance, please submit a support ticket with the ITS Support Center using the keyword G2G at https://itrequest.ucsc.edu , or by email help@ucsc.edu

Retirees

I am a Retiree and am unsure what I need to do about MFA. MFA is an additional step that protects your accounts from being accessed by anyone but yourself. The protection is done through the use of a device (smartphone, tablet, telephone, token) that only you have. If you access a UCSC application that requires the Gold password (ie; ucsc email, calendar, etc..) you will have to MFA to gain access to these applications. The first step to getting started with MFA is to know your Gold password.  Unsure if you have a Gold password, start here. Once you have your Gold password, you can enroll a device. Here are the enrollment steps for devices:

When do I have to sign up for MFA? Retirees who have both the Gold and Blue passwords can sign up for MFA anytime before September 10. Retirees who only have the Blue password can sign up for MFA anytime after August 20. On August 26, UCSC email will be switching from using the Blue password to using your Gold password. This means to log in, you will need your Gold password and you will have to MFA.

In addition to not understanding MFA:

  • I think I have a Blue and Gold password but I’m not sure. It’s ok if you don’t remember your Gold password Go to CruzID Manager  and select the Forgot Your Password link. Follow the steps on this page for complete instructions. If you require further assistance, please submit a support ticket with the ITS Support Center using the keyword G2G at https://itrequest.ucsc.edu , or by email help@ucsc.edu.
  • I think I only have a Blue password but I’m not sure. Go to CruzID Manager  and select the No Cruzid Gold link. The login screen will change and allow you to log in with your Blue password. If you can’t log in because you don’t know your Blue password, please submit a support ticket with the ITS Support Center using the keyword G2G at https://itrequest.ucsc.edu , or by email help@ucsc.edu.

I have checked with ITS and I do not have a Gold password? What do I need to do to prepare? Some retirees only have a Blue password. On August 20, 2019, you will be assigned a Gold Password. Your new Gold password, will be the same as your existing Blue password . As a result, ITS recommends that you go to CruzID Manager to change your Gold password to a new, unique password before you are required to MFA.

MFA

I installed the DUO Mobile app on my phone. Since that time, I retired and was recalled. I do not have a Gold password. What do I do? When you were recalled, you were only given a Blue password. On August 20, as part of the Google to Gold effort, you will be given a Gold password. Once you have a Gold password, you can enroll in MFA. We suggest that you delete the existing Duo Mobile app from your phone and then add it a new. This is a simpler method than trying to install your device on an existing account.

Google to Gold

What is this ‘Google to Gold’ that I keep hearing about? I don’t understand what is happening. In brief, the UCSC Google Suite of services (campus email, calendar, drive, groups, etc.) is switching from using the Blue password to requiring the Gold password on August 26, 2019. As with MFA, this is part of a continued UC system-wide effort to provide increased security against cybercrime.
