Preparing Your Computer for UCSC

To protect your computer and the university's network, we would like to make sure your device is compliant with our network and that it is safe for you to use the residential network. The long of the short is that we would like for your computer to have our university's policy key, an anti-virus updated and running, and a firewall runing. Make sure to bring your official OS and application installation DVD’s and software license keys in case your device experiences any malfunctions.

In order to connect to ResNet:

  • Download and install the UCSC Safeconnect Policy key
  • Your computer operating system and all applications must be updated to current versions.
  • Your computer must have an Anti-Virus software installed and running.
  • Your computer should have a firewall running.
  • Your computer should have a complex passphrase or password.

ResNet enforces network access policies via the SafeConnect system.

Many antivirus software packages comply with the ResNet Use Policy and are accepted by the SafeConnect system.
