Software Licensing and Distribution
ITS negotiates with vendors to make software available to the UCSC community for free or at a discounted rate. The IT Software Catalog includes a variety of applications for teaching and learning, research, and administrative use.

Features
- ITS considers managing the licensing and distribution of software on behalf of the campus when it meets the following criteria:
- The software offers great value to a large portion of the UCSC community and is not overly specialized
- There is no existing UCSC-licensed or free software that offers the same functionality
- There are significant pricing discounts available for coordinated licensing
- ITS receives campus funding to support core software needs. However, ITS does not cover the costs of licensing specialized software for individual or departmental use. If you require access to specialized software, please consult with your business unit for purchasing options
- Software is also made available to UCSC faculty and staff through Standard Desktop Services
- Computer Labs also provide access to a software library
- Eligibility requirements are described for each individual catalog title. Learn more about how we determine eligibility for software

- ITS is interested in learning about new and emerging core software needs. Before submitting a request, please review the Software Catalog to ensure the software is not already licensed for campus use:
