General statement
ITS provides instructional media services for the support of academic courses using audio-visual media in general assignment spaces on the UCSC campus. A course is defined as being listed in the schedule of classes, having a class number, and meeting at the time and general assignment location listed in the UCSC Registrar’s Schedule of Classes. The spaces identified as general assignment spaces are in the General Assignment Classroom Directory.
Any use of classroom media systems not considered an academic course as defined above is considered an event and audio-visual equipment needs are handled by the University Advancement (UA) Events Team as of July 1, 2025. To request media access for an event from UA and to provide payment information, submit a ticket via SlugHub. Requests should be made at least seven (7) days in advance.
Academic Media Support
- Instructors and students may use permanently installed classroom media equipment as part of course work and academic instruction as defined in the General Statement above.
- Instructors may implement Lecture Capture to record their academic courses taught in general assignment classrooms. Recordings can include projector streams, audio, and front-facing camera feeds in the classroom. For details on configuring this service and options available, see the Lecture Capture service page.
- Instructors may request use of the Academic Computing Labs as a resource for instruction and section meetings. Reservation of a lab requires 3-week notice to vet software requests and coordinate scheduling.
- Students and faculty with special media needs arising from disabilities will be accommodated for courses during the academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Quarters). Requests for accommodations should be made through the Disability Resource Center.
- Most course requests will be fulfilled within 2 days, but large or complex requests for equipment delivery and/or staffing may require up to two weeks before the first scheduled use of the equipment.
