Computer Labs

Overview

There are twelve ITS Learning Technologies computer labs across campus. These lab spaces are used for scheduled UCSC classes, general drop-in/open-use for UCSC students, and summer conferences. Lab computers require logging on with an active CruzID & Blue password. Below are general categories and links to common services related to ITS Learning Technologies computer labs. Beyond the computer labs, there are also computer workstations and printing options available in the McHenry and Science & Engineering libraries

Lab Descriptions

Lab computer platforms include Macintosh, Windows, and Unix (Linux). Capacity in computer labs ranges from eight to 48 workstations, and locations are distributed throughout the UCSC campus. In some locations, computer labs are equipped with specialized instrutional technology equipment (HD data projectors, scanners, and video editing stations). Most labs are staffed with consultants.

Hours & Schedules

Computer labs are available to current UCSC students for drop-in use when classes are not in session. Most labs are open daily, from early in the morning until late at night, and three labs are open 24 hours/day (Baskin Engineering 105 lab, Baskin Engineering 109 lab, Cowell Apt 101 lab, and the Oakes 205 lab)

Printing

All computer labs offer 2-sided black and white laser printing. Student accounts are automatically enabled to print, and charges are processed via their student portal (MyUCSC); no cash/print cards are needed. Color laser printing is available at the Cowell Apt 101 lab, Baskin Engineering 109 lab, Porter Arts lab, and Social Sciences 1 Mac lab & Windows lab.

Software

An extensive software library is maintained in all labs. Instructors may request specific software for course use.
