Important Data Privacy Update: Changes to Student Directory Information
Effective February 6, 2026, email addresses for undergraduate students will be removed from the public Campus Directory. Graduate student and student employee email addresses will remain visible in the campus directory.
Why the change?
Following a collaborative review by campus leadership and Information Security, a decision was reached to implement this measure to protect against phishing and social engineering attempts targeting undergraduate students.
By removing undergraduate student email addresses from the public view by default, we help to reduce the number of malicious emails, fake job offers, and phishing attacks that reach their inbox.
This change puts UC Santa Cruz in alignment with other UC campuses and how they protect campus directory information.
Impact of the change
It will no longer be possible to use the campus directory to look up undergraduate email addresses, unless they are a student employee. If you need to look up a student email address, follow these Knowledge Base instructions for how to do so in a secure and authenticated manner: Finding Campus Email Addresses Using Google Contacts
