Web Analysis Tools

The UCSC web site, www.ucsc.edu and associated pages, collect information to improve functionality and content and to monitor performance. Data is used to help answer specific questions about the usage and performance of the web site or individual web pages. UCSC uses third party web analysis services to help gather and analyze this information.

Use of Google Analytics for Web Statistics

The UCSC web site, www.ucsc.edu and associated pages, uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”).

Google Analytics uses “cookies”, which are text files placed on your computer to help analyze how users use this Web page. The information generated by the cookie about your use (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of this page, compiling reports on activity for ITS staff and providing other services relating to Web page activity and internet usage.

Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google's behalf.

You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings in your browser. By using these Web pages and accepting cookies, you consent to the processing of data about you by Google in the manner and for the purposes set out above.

Use of HubSpot for Web Statistics

The UCSC web site, www.ucsc.edu and associated pages also uses web analytics services provided by HubSpot. These services may include the use of Flash Cookies, which are stored on your computer, to help collect  usage information for these web pages. Anonymous information from these Flash Cookies may be shared with HubSpot for the provision of their services.

End-users should be aware that browser settings that block conventional cookies may not affect Flash Cookies. However, Flash Cookies may be disabled using the Global Storage Settings panel of the online Settings Manager at Adobe's website.

IT Request

Collection and analysis of search terms: UCSC's IT Request tool (itrequest.ucsc.edu) collects information on terms used to search for Frequestly Asked Questions (FAQ) & Knowledge Base (KB) articles to improve functionality and content. Data is used to help answer specific questions about the information users search for in order to improve articles and user success in finding appropriate knowledge base articles.
