ResWiFi Service

ResWiFi is a free encrypted network service for UCSC students and staff living on campus in the residential halls. More details regarding the 25 residential halls that have ResWiFi are available here.

SafeConnect is used to manage network access and enforce UC Minimum Security Standard for antivirus and operating systems. SafeConnect uses CruzID and Blue password credentials to authenticate users. Guest access is not available on ResWiFi. Campus guests are welcome to use the UCSC-Guest WiFi service.

  • ResWiFi allows campus residents to connect up to five devices to the Internet.
  • ResWiFi is compatible with most 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz devices. ITS recommends using 5 GHz for fastest service; and for desktop computers, use a dual band network interface card for best performance.
  • Personally owned WiFi routers are not allowed in residential halls with ResWifi.
  • ResWiFi does not meet standards for sensitive or protected data and should not be used for University administrative work.

ResWiFi is available 24/7. If the system requires maintenance, downtime will be conducted Monday - Friday, 3:00 AM - 7:00 AM, unless otherwise arranged with ResNet and Housing.
