Thunderbird Settings for UCSC Google Email
These instructions are meant for setting up new accounts and configurations or for checking your settings. They are not intended to be used to migrate from POP to IMAP email settings. If you encounter difficulties, please contact the ITS Support Center.

IMAP Instructions (Recommended)
Step 1: Enable IMAP in your Gmail Settings
Step 2: Open Thunderbird, enter your account information and click Continue.
- Full Name: [your first and last name]
- Email Address: your full UCSC email address [tasmith2@ucsc.edu]
- Password: your CruzID Gold password. If you have 2-Step Verification on your account, enter an app password into this field instead.
Thunderbird will do all of the setup for you, but confirm your settings with the information below.
Step 3: Confirm the Server Settings
In Thunderbird, open the Account Settings (Tools | Account Settings) and select the Server settings.
Incoming Server Settings:
- IMAP server: imap.gmail.com
- Port: 993
- Security type: SSL (always)
- Authentication: OAuth2
Outgoing Server Settings:
- SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
- Port: 465
- Security type: SSL (always)
- Authentication: OAuth2
