Digital Certificate Service
UC Santa Cruz is now participating in the InCommon Certificate Service, which entitles the campus to unlimited digital certificates -- currently SSL/X.509 certificates only.
Effective May 1, 2013, the ITS Digital Certificate Service replaces any previous SSL Certificate Request processes and order forms.
Digital certificates are commonly used to encrypt web traffic (they provide the "s" in "https"). They are also are used to confirm identity, secure communications between parties, and ensure integrity of transmissions.
Digital certificates ordered through the InCommon Certificate Service are issued by the Comodo Certificate Authority, provide 2048-bit encryption, and have a maximum term of three years (one year for systems with restricted data). Certificates can be ordered for any UCSC domain (mydomain.ucsc.edu) or affiliation (mydomain.university-extension.edu, ucscbookstore.com) so long as the Administrative contact in the "WhoIs" record is associated with UCSC (typically email@example.com).
Existing certificates can be converted to the new InCommon Certificate Service at any time. Replace certificates that are nearing their expiration date with certificates obtained through the InCommon Certificate Service.
Digital certificates ordered through this service are at no charge to the requester. The service is sponsored and funded through the office of the Vice Chancellor, Information Technology (VC IT).
Digital certificates can be ordered via the IT Request ticket system. You will be prompted to provide information necessary to process the request. Requests are generally filled within three to five business days.
NOTE: Certificates obtained outside of the ITS Certificate Service may be forwarded to the ITS Certificate Team for review and exception processing.
