Configuring an Email Client & Mobile Device using UCSC Google Email
The best way to access your UCSC Gmail account is using the Gmail web interface via a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, IE). Here are a few reasons why:
- The Web-based search engine in Gmail is powerful and much faster than using email clients.
- Gmail in a web browser works seamlessly with the other Google Apps (Calendar, Drive and Docs, etc.). It is easy to navigate between Apps. Since Gmail and Google Apps were designed to be used in a browser, new features will always be available using the browser.
- Gmail was built with the intention of using the web interface and some functionality may be lost by using an email client.
While ITS encourages you to use the Gmail web interface, we understand that you may have a strong personal preference when it comes to using an email client. If you questions, please contact the ITS Support Center.
General Client Settings
Settings to configure IMAP or POP for the use of an email client and mobile device programs with UCSC Google Email. If you encounter difficulties, please contact the ITS Support Center.
POP USERS: Messages in Spam and Trash aren't downloaded unless you move them to your inbox or All Mail. ITS recommends checking your mail via the web interface on a regular basis (once a week or so) to review messages that have been moved into the Spam folder.
IMAP USERS: Make sure that IMAP is enabled in your main UCSC Google email settings.
