Student Financial Aid Data

Student financial aid data is personal financial information held by financial institutions and higher education organizations as related to student loan and financial aid applications.

Student financial aid data is classified at data protection level P4, which requires the highest level of security. Under the Gramm Leach Bliley Act (GLBA), the Financial Aid department must secure nonpublic personal information in a student loan application and keep the information confidential. In order to ensure this security, the financial aid department must follow the Safeguards Rule, which states that the department must have a written information security plan that describes their program to protect customer information.
