Communications Building Data Center Migration
Information Technology Services has developed the Communications Building Data Center Migration project to evolve the university’s compute and data storage capabilities and services to meet the needs of the UCSC research, academic, and administrative communities. Read more about this initiative

Capacity
Provides flexible capacity to meet campus demand. Capacity is based on approved funding and can be modified as needed
Security
- Dedicated perimeter fence physical barrier, distributed video surveillance and card access control.
- UCSC cabinet space is locked in containment modules.
- Access to this area requires approval by ITS Data Center Operations and facility hosts.
Cooling
- State-of-the-art fresh air / free cooling using 95% less water than typical evaporative cooling systems.
Smoke Detectors and Fire Suppression Systems
- Very Early Smoke Detection and Alarm (VESDA) system.
- Fire suppression sprinkler systems installed throughout the facility.
Operations Support
- On-site operators provide support for the server environment. Access to support can be coordinated through your ITS Division Liaison or the data center operations team.
Information Security
- All systems hosted at this location are behind a firewall with custom rules. The hosted hardware will be provisioned on a network segment behind the firewall that enables appropriate protection and access. VPN services are provided for secure remote access to servers and services behind the Data Center firewall.
- Data Center Network — The data center network provides high-availability network connectivity to hosted servers. Physical servers are provided with standard 1 Gbps service, with 10 Gbps service available. Custom options for higher performance are available when required.
