What is phishing?
Phishing is a type of social engineering attack used by hackers to trick you into revealing sensitive information, such as personal details or login credentials, or to install malware on your devices.
This scam is often delivered through:
- Emails with malicious links or attachments
- Pop-up ads
- Social media posts
- Text messages and phone calls
What is UCSC doing about phishing?
ITS conducts a monthly campaign sending mock phishing emails to UCSC staff and faculty. This campaign is designed to educate and remind individuals to be vigilant. We also work to educate the campus community on how to train their individual spam filters.
Phishing scams pose a significant threat, but with the right knowledge and vigilance, we can protect ourselves and our community. By participating in the June Phishing Word Search Challenge, you not only stand a chance to win a gift card but also equip yourself with vital information to combat phishing. Stay informed, stay safe, and help spread awareness!
