October is UC Cybersecurity Awareness Month (UCCAM), the perfect time to protect yourself and our campus from cyber threats and to support our campus’s efforts to comply with new cybersecurity requirements.
New UC Cybersecurity Requirements
UC President Drake has issued new cybersecurity requirements that all UC locations must comply with by May 2025. Do your part and complete the following two requirements prior to the deadline:
- Complete the employee UC Cybersecurity Awareness Fundamentals Training.
- Use multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all UCSC email accounts. While individual accounts already require MFA, sundry, operational (aka functional), and sponsored accounts will also need it. If you manage one of these accounts, you’ll receive an email with instructions soon.
Here are a few other simple and effective ways to keep yourself safe online and protect our campus:
- Use strong passwords and a password manager.
- Recognize phishing attempts and report them.
- Keep your software up-to-date.
