As of July 1, 2024, UCSC students can check out a laptop and/or charger from the Self-Service laptop kiosks at McHenry Library or the Science & Engineering Library for up to 24 hours FREE! This program was designed with the convenience and needs of all of our students in mind, and we’re excited to share a few new updates.
First 24 hours are now free
ITS understands that student schedules vary, so we are excited to offer an extended borrowing period on laptops and/or chargers for up to 24 hours, completely free of charge! This update comes as a direct response to student feedback, as we strive to provide more flexibility to accommodate their busy schedules.
Reduced usage fee
In addition to extending the borrowing time, ITS is also happy to announce a significant reduction in usage fees. After the initial 24-hour period, a usage fee of $5 per day will apply. This is a substantial decrease compared to the previous hourly rate of $2, making the service more affordable and accessible to all students. Usage fees can be avoided if a student returns the laptop or charger within the first 24 hours. If they need a device for longer, they may check out a new one each day if there are devices available.
