Unix Timeshare

The Unix Timeshare is being retired. More information available here.

The unix timeshare, unix.ucsc.edu, provides remote, command line access to Linux-based Unix systems.

unix.ucsc.edu is a multiprocessor, load-balanced Linux system that provides a computing environment for multiple concurrent users. The Unix timeshare is intended for interactive use, not as a compute server for long running computationally intensive tasks.

The Unix timeshare system is accessible via SSH, X-Windows (via X2Go), and SFTP. It is designed to provide an environment consistent with ITS computer labs, so that students and instructors have a uniform computing experience. The Unix timeshare provides access to your UCSC home directory for shared file storage and access to a large software library, including multiple software development environments.
