Updated CruzID Gold and Duo Authentication Experience
Coming March 30, 2023
On Thursday, March 30, 2023, ITS will implement a new CruzID Gold Password login screen and Duo’s new Universal Prompt experience. These changes impact only the look and feel and will make authenticating sign ins more secure, streamlined, and accessible.
Why the changes?
- The new Duo multi-factor authentication experience will be easier to use, accessible, and more secure.
What will be different?
Duo’s authentication experience:
- The "Remember me for 14 days" checkbox will be replaced with a "Yes, trust browser" and will have the same exact result (remember you for 14 days).
- The prompt screen will look different and will default to your last multi-authentication method used.
- SMS text users will receive a single passcode.
- Browser default languages, including Spanish and Japanese will be honored.
What's staying the same?
- The process of logging in will remain the same. At the login prompt you will enter your CruzID and Gold Password and then be prompted to Duo multi-factor authentication (MFA).
- The initial user and password entry address will include login.ucsc.edu
- All currently enrolled devices will remain enrolled in Duo.
- We heard your feedback on the new CruzID design and will be keeping the current background image of the UCSC campus.
NOTE: The recommended method of authentication is via the Duo Mobile application on a smartphone or a tablet. Visit this web page to learn why.
