Microsoft Office changes coming to campus for faculty and staff

August 01, 2024

Beginning August 12 through September 30, 2024, ITS will be installing the new Microsoft 365 Apps on all university-owned managed computers. You will know your install is complete when you open a Microsoft Office application on your computer and are prompted to activate your subscription. The activation is quickly accomplished by signing into any Microsoft Office application with your CruzID and Gold password. You won’t need to activate again after this first time.

If your computer is not managed through BigFix or Jamf Pro, you will need to follow these instructions to install the new Microsoft 365 Apps yourself. If you’re not sure whether or not your computer is managed, click the links in the prior sentence to learn more.

Why is this changing?

Microsoft has changed their product offering effective August 2024 necessitating a change to our campus installation method. This change is being implemented to align with Microsoft's new licensing model, which enhances security and ensures compliance. UCSC currently licenses all active faculty and staff for this product.
