Virtual Server Hosting: Academic
No-cost server hosting in the ITS Data Center using a shared platform for virtual machines. Intended for smaller academic-focused workloads and only available to faculty and graduate students.
Benefits and Features
- No cost to faculty and graduate students (with sponsorship from faculty). Subsidized by ITS and academic units.
- Suited for academic workloads, small research systems, academic websites, self-managed developer sandboxes, and non-critical applications
Requirements
- Graduate students must have faculty approval to use.
- Available for IS3 P1-P2 data only.
- Server (size) limits: 4 vCPU
- Workload must qualify as academic use for research, teaching, or learning.
- Workload must be able to sustain brief downtimes.
- Users must follow data center standards.

Cost
- No cost. The cost is subsidized by ITS and academic units.
- Backup Service available for an additional cost.
Support
- ITS Academic Divisional Support will have access to the virtual server.
- Server owners are responsible for the operating system.
- For planned maintenance, the Data Centers follow the ITS Change Management process and planned changes are posted on the ITS Maintenance Calendar.
