No-cost server hosting in the ITS Data Center using a shared platform for virtual machines. Intended for smaller academic-focused workloads and only available to faculty and graduate students.

Benefits and Features

  • No cost to faculty and graduate students (with sponsorship from faculty). Subsidized by ITS and academic units.
  • Suited for academic workloads, small research systems, academic websites, self-managed developer sandboxes, and non-critical applications 

Requirements

  • Graduate students must have faculty approval to use.
  • Available for IS3 P1-P2 data only.
  • Server standard size: 2 vCPU, 2G memory, 50G OS disk. Dedicated NFS mount available for app storage.
  • Server size limits: 4 vCPU, 8G memory. Larger sized workloads only on an exception basis after discussion.
  • Workload must qualify as academic use for research, teaching, or learning.
  • Workload must be able to sustain brief downtimes.
  • Users must follow data center standards.

Cost

  • No cost. The cost is subsidized by ITS and academic units.
  • Backup Service available for an additional cost.

Support

  • ITS Academic Divisional Support will have access to the virtual server.
  • Server owners are responsible for the operating system.
  • For planned maintenance, the Data Centers follow the ITS Change Management process and planned changes are posted on the ITS Maintenance Calendar.
