Set up before arrival to campus (using JoinNow)

The instructions below are for configuring your macOS computer through SecureW2 JoinNow. We recommend this method if you can connect to the internet before connecting to ResWiFi.

  1. Click here to open the JoinNow page.
  2. You should see the "Welcome" screen with your operating system already chosen. If not, then use the drop-down menu to select your device.
  3. Click JoinNow.
  4. When prompted, download and open the app file.
  5. Double-click the SecureW2 icon and accept the macOS warning to launch the app.
  6. Enter your UCSC email (cruzid@ucsc.edu) and your Gold password.
  7. Click Next.
  8. When prompted, enter your macOS password (computer login) and click OK.
  9. The macOS System Preferences should now open. If not, manually open it by clicking on the top-left Apple icon, selecting System Preferences, and clicking on the Profiles tab.
  10. Next to University of California - Santa Cruz, ResWiFi, click Install.
  11. When prompted, enter your macOS password and click OK.
  12. JoinNow will now attempt to connect to ResWiFi*.

*You can configure ResWiFi off-campus or in a non-ResWiFi location. However, be aware that step 12 above may tell you it has failed to connect. This is okay – the configuration has been set, and your computer will connect when you are in the range of ResWiFi. Not sure where ResWiFi is offered? Check here.

Wired Residential Network

Some residential buildings do not offer ResWiFi, or only as a supplemental service in hallways/lounges. To connect in these locations, consult our Wired Access page. Not sure which connection type you have? Check here.

Family Student Housing

Students at FSH should connect to ResWiFi for the most secure connection. Spouses and children (without a CruzID) may connect to the FSH-Family network. To connect to FSH-Family on a Mac:

  1. Click on the WiFi icon in your screen's upper right-hand corner.
  2. Select FSH-Family from the list of the networks.
  3. Enter the passphrase SlugFamily.
  4. Click Done.
  5. After a moment, the WiFi icon will display a connection to FSH-Family.
