Software is available to active students only. Graduates and students on leave will lose access to the software items on this page. Any work saved in these programs may not be recoverable. Backup all files to a personally-owned computer before leaving the university.

ArcGIS by ESRI

ArcGIS software

ArcGIS Desktop is an integrated collections GIS & Mapping software products available free for UCSC students. ArcGIS installs on Windows OS only.

ArcGIS Online

Requesting New Access:
  1. Go to SlugHub: https://slughub.ucsc.edu/its
  2. Click Get Help and fill out the form.
  3. In the Optional field, type "New ArcGIS user"
  4. Click on the Submit button to create a ServiceNow ticket.

Once you have received email confirmation that you account has been created, you may login and begin accessing ArcGIS Online immediately.

Logging into you MyESRI/ArcGIS Account (for desktop accounts):

  1.  Go to UCSC's GIS Portal: esri.com/en-us/my-esri-login
  2. At the top-right of the page, click Sign In.
  3. Click the blue University of California Santa Cruz button.
  4. Enter your CruzID and Gold password.
  5. Enter your Multi-Factor authentication.

ArcGIS Pro (Desktop)

To install the Windows desktop version of ArcGIS, first create an account as described above and then continue with the following steps. ESRI does not support non-Windows operating systems at this time.

NOTE: The product called ArcGIS Desktop (also formerly known as ArcMap) has been replaced by ArcGIS Pro.

Downloading ArcGIS Pro

  1. Open a web browser and go to UCSC's GIS Portal: https://ucsc.maps.arcgis.com
  2. At the top-right of the page, click "Sign In."
  3. Click the "Univeristy of California Santa Cruz" button.
  4. Enter your CruzID, Gold password and MFA verification.
  5. At the top-right, click your profile icon.
  6. Click "MyESRI" to be redirected to your MyESRI Overview page.
  7. At the top of the page, go to the Downloads tab and click "All Products and Versions." NOTE: If there is no Downloads tab, it means your account is not authorized to download software. See Requesting access to Downloads below.
  8. Under Core Products, click "ArcGIS Pro."
  9. Click to accept the Terms and Conditions.
  10. On the Download tile, confirm that your Language setting is correct.
  11. In the list of product components, in the Action column next to ArcGIS Pro, click "Download" to get the core installer.

Installing ArcGIS Pro

  1. Run the ArcGIS Pro core installer.
  2. Browse to a destination folder for archive extraction. The default location is: "C:\Users\username\Documents\ArcGIS Pro 3.2"
  3. After extraction is complete, navigate to the extraction folder. Run ArcGISPro .exe and follow the prompts.
  4. For Installation Context, select "Anyone who uses this computer (all users)" and click Next.
  5. Leave the default installation directory as "C:\Program Files\ArcGIS\Pro" and click Next.
  6. Accept the Terms and Conditions and click Next.
  7. Choose whether you would like to participate in the optional Esri User Experience program and click Install.
  8. If Windows User Account Control asks for permission to proceed, click Yes
  9. Click the Finish button to exit when installation is complete

NOTE:You may now safely delete the folder used for archive extraction in Step 2.

Configuring a New License

  1. Launch ArcGIS Pro from the Start Menu.
  2. At the bottom of the login window, click "Configure Licensing."
  3. For License Type, select "Single Use License" from the dropdown menu.
  4. At the bottom of the window, click the "Authorize" button.
  5. Input the authorization code.

Requesting Access to Downloads

  1. Go to the Overview tab and click "Request Additional Permissions."
  2. Click "Contact MyESRI administrator" to submit a message. Please specify which additional permissions you require. You will be notified when the permission has been granted.
